Project description: In collaboration with South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) we are working on a project to support more reliable travel by using the highway shoulder for transit vehicles. This concept is referred to as Bus on Shoulder. The project extends approximately five miles in both directions of I-205 between Stafford Road and OR43 (Willamette Drive). Another segment in the southbound direction extends for approximately one mile between the OR 212 interchange and 82nd Drive. Culverts resemble tunnels and are built under a highway or road to allow water such as streams and rivers to flow under the road surface to the other side. Culverts help prevent flooding and erosion. This project will improve pedestrian facilities along U.S. 101 between Broadway Avenue and Fir Street in North Bend by building ADA ramps, adding two pedestrian crossings with flashing lights near Ash Street and Spruce Street, sidewalk infills and bike lanes. Construction is scheduled for completion in December. Watch for intermittent daytime shoulder closures through the project area. Watch for nighttime (7 p.m. to 9 a.m.) lane closures from Sunday night to Friday morning. Expect minor delays. Watch for traffic control changes and construction signs. Slow down and drive with caution. When sidewalks are closed for construction, alternate pedestrian routes will be provided.

There is no vehicle, pedestrian or bicycle access to Multnomah Falls heading westbound on the Historic Highway from Exit 35. The Oneonta trailhead is open to hikers, with limited parking. Project Description: Two 100 year-old elevated roadways that provide access to Multnomah Falls require repairs to continue providing access to one of Oregon's most iconic sites. The elevated roadways – called viaducts – carry vehicles and bicycles to the Falls and Lodge from the Historic Columbia River Highway. The east viaduct will be closed fall 2025 through spring 2026.
