I-5 MP 195.45 to 195.46

Informational only; Construction Work
Lanes Affected: (Southbound) 3 Lanes (Northbound) 3 Lanes
Comments: The posted speed limit has been reduced to 35 on the Beltline bridge and 50 on Interstate 5 near the interchange due to construction work zone. New, lower speed limits have been implemented on the Randy Papé Beltline bridge over Interstate 5, and on I-5 beneath the bridge where construction has begun on a two-year project to improve the I-5/Beltline interchange. Beginning Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the posted, enforceable speed limit on the Beltline bridge over I-5 will be 35 miles per hour. The speed limit on I-5 near the interchange will be reduced to 50 miles per hour. The speed limit reductions will be enforced until the project is completed in fall of 2014. The speed limit reductions are intended to improve work zone safety for all highway users and construction workers. From 2007 through 2011 in Oregon, 53 people died and more than 2,200 were injured in work zone crashes. The majority of people injured or killed in these crashes were drivers, passengers or pedestrians, not workers. The single biggest factor in crashes is driver inattention; that’s why orange cones, variable message signs and other tools are used to alert motorists. The other major contributing factor is speed, which is why work zones often require lower speed limits. National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 16-19. To learn more about work zone safety, visit ODOT’s safety website at: http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/TS/pages/workzonesafety.aspx

Comments: The on ramp to south bound I 5 from West bound Beltline may be closed weeknights from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Follow detour signs. Use caution. The new Beltline Bridge over I5 is nearly complete. Traffic is expected to be shifted to the final alignment in September. The project is expected to be substantially complete in October. A speed limit reduction to 35 MPH is in effect on Beltline. A speed limit reduction to 50 MPH is in effect for I-5 through the construction zone. Most work will be happening behind barrier. Look for periodic lane closures and trucks entering and exiting the highway. Project Summary: This project will rebuild the interchange at Interstate 5 and Randy Pape’ Beltline Highway to meet modern design and safety standards. State funds from the Jobs and Transportation Act will build: - A new I-5 southbound to westbound Beltline off-ramp. - A new I-5 southbound to eastbound Beltline off-ramp. - A new westbound Beltline to southbound I-5 on-ramp - A new Beltline Bridge over I-5 - And base construction and structures for a new multi-use path to connect south of the interchange to north of the interchange. The path will open upon completion of Unit 4 scheduled to be constructed in 2016. This is a two year project. Construction of Unit 3 is scheduled to be completed by November 2014.

US20 MP 92.29 to 92.83

Informational only; Commercial Vehicle Information
Details: US20/OR126 MP 92.29 to MP 92.83 EB & WB (Sisters) As of June 26, 2014, the 12 width restriction through Sisters has been lifted; however there are new requirements for loads over 12 wide traveling through this area. The movement of two loads each exceeding 12 in width traveling in opposing directions through Sisters at the same time is not allowed through a six block section of downtown Sisters between S Pine St and S Larch St due to horizontal width constraints. The lead pilot vehicle operator must ensure no oversize load over 12' in width enters the restricted section from the opposite direction before the permitted vehicle enters the restricted section. Pilot vehicles escorting wide loads exceeding 12' in width must announce their approaching presence on CB radio channel 17 prior to entering the six block section of downtown Sisters between S Pine St and S Larch St. In the event of an oncoming oversize load, one of the lead pilot vehicle operators must direct his piloted load to wait and allow the approaching load to pass safely before proceeding.
